Working with hidden files in OS X

So many people are unaware of this shortcut that I thought I'd put it into a blog post for posterity.

If you've ever had to edit a hidden system file in OS X, like the hosts file (for adding custom domain names to your local machine), it's easy to find and open these files from any application. When you invoke the Open File menu option, simply press SHIFT+COMMAND+. (that's period) to toggle whether or not hidden files and folders can be seen.
